Skin Cancer Awareness Month is an annual awareness campaign that takes place every May. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the dangers of unprotected sun exposure and educate people on how to protect themselves whilst enjoying their time outdoors.

According to Cancer Research UK, melanoma skin cancer incidence rates in the UK are projected to rise by 7% by 2035.

What Causes Skin Cancer?

Health Assured states that the main cause of skin cancer is excessive ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or sunbeds. They also advise that in the UK alone, 9 in 10 cases of melanoma could be prevented by taking the correct precautions, as well as avoiding the use of sunbeds altogether. The UV light damages skin over time, increasing the possibility of skin cancers to develop. Repeated sunburn will also make your skin more susceptible to skin cancer.

NHS UK explains there are other, usually non-avoidable, factors that can contribute to your likelihood of developing skin cancer. These include having blonde or red hair, having blue eyes, older age, having a large number of moles or freckles, pre-existing conditions or taking medication that suppresses your immune system.

Reduce Your Chances of Developing Skin Cancer

As much as we all love being beautifully bronzed, there is no safe or healthy way to get a tan (visit NHS UK). Ensuring that your skin doesn’t burn and using at least SPF 30 sunscreen can greatly reduce the risks of sun overexposure.

Many of us presume that we only need to apply sunscreen during the height of summer, but even in the cooler, cloudier months, UV rays still penetrate through the clouds reaching your skin. Covering up with suitable clothes and protecting your eyes with sunglasses can help to protect your skin.

3D-lipo Professional Solutions SPF30

At 3D-lipo we have a range of SPF 30 products available, including a tinted moisturiser in light, medium and dark tones as well as a clear SPF 30 sunscreen spray.

Our SPF Tinted Moisturisers incorporate skin refreshing properties, colour dispensing toner and light reflecting UV ingredients. The ingredients include Zinc Oxide, which is a physical block for UV rays and Octinoxate, an organic compound that absorbs UV rays, protecting the skin from damage. This product has also been created to ensure that it doesn’t block your pores and can be worn underneath makeup.

SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray is a well balanced no streak formula in a light spray to protect against harmful UV damage. This product also includes Octinoxate as well as Micronised Titanium Dioxide. This ingredient is a powerful UV refracting ingredient and physical block that scatters the UV light from its reflective particles.

When treating skin for sun damage using our 3D-Skintech machine, we always recommend incorporating these products pre and post-treatment as the skincare products have been formulated to work in harmony with all of our technologies.
